Welcome to South Boston

An up-and-coming community, Boston’s hottest market

South Boston is a traditional neighborhood in Boston, with much to offer. It's recognized for its expansive waterfront and is considered the fastest growing market in terms of price growth and new construction homes. While many of the homes are traditional Boston-style properties, there's also an emerging, more modern trend in new construction here. Newer home developments, along with a growing area of restaurants and shops, makes South Boston attractive to many.

There's a wide range of appeal when it comes to homes in this area. Historic brick homes line some streets. In others, triple-decker properties that have been divided into condos and apartments are also present. There's also the development of modern luxury homes with elevators, concierge services, and parking garages.

  • Walks along the waterfront.
  • A strong sense of community pride.

Local Lifestyle

South Boston is an emerging area. While it’s been densely populated for a long time, the community has seen a significant transformation in recent years, with new commercial developments and modern, beautiful homes. There's a distinct divide in the city. The West Side offers larger, newer homes with more modern features. The East Side offers more of the traditional style housing much of Boston is known for, including brownstones.

Yet, the area has a strong community vibe, no matter which side residents live on. It’s easy enough to walk along the water or in one of the parks and feel welcomed and right at home. At the same time, sophisticated and elegant dining and restaurants help create a more modern vibe.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

South Boston features numerous dining establishments, perhaps most noted for Fox & The Knife, a traditional Italian destination for handmade food and good drinks. The Lincoln Tavern and Restaurant is a true American tavern, right down to the wood-flanked rooms. Loco Taqueria & Oyster Bar is a funky neighborhood establishment and the ideal place for nightlife. Or, for those looking for sushi with their cocktails, check out Fat Baby. The Broadway is a notable bar with comfort food on Broadway. Consider Publico Street Bistro & Garden with its weekend brunch and bistro atmosphere for more modern fares.

The city is home to numerous shopping areas, many of which are locally owned, like Neatly Nested, the perfect location for unique gifts and home décor. Sweet Cee’s Shops on Main is another place to buy a special gift. Distinct Impressions and Southern Frills Clothing Boutique are fabulous shops for clothing.

Things to Do

Many people take to Castle Island on the weekends for its fantastic beaches and history. It's home to Fort Independence and a great place to visit if you want to brush up on this unique bit of Boston’s past.

Other outdoor experiences include Telegraph Hill and M Street Beach. Telegraph Hill is a historic neighborhood with beautiful architecture that got its name for being a lookout during various times of strife. M Street Beach allows for swimming, picnicking, and sunbathing. For more of a local playground and park, check out Medal of Honor Park.

It’s impossible not to note the St. Patrick’s Day Parade that travels through the city each March. It’s a day celebrated by most of the city, often leading to music, laughing, and a green beer or two.
